Miracast 

  • Miracast works completely offline
  • Part of the Wi-Fi features on new (gadgets/SmartTV)/dongle

  • Uses Wi-Fi Direct(two devices connect to each other wirelessly, without a Wi-Fi router)
  • Chances are, if you bought a gadget after 2014, it will support Miracast. This includes most TVs, who disguise their Miracast feature under names like "SmartShare", "AllShare", and so on

Which Android devices support Miracast?

  • Android supported Miracast in Android 4.2 (KitKat) and Android 5 (Lollipop). However, Google dropped native Miracast support in Android 6 (Marshmallow) and later. 
  • Workaround solution (not tested)

    • Use 3rd party app ay playstore but contain ads at setup( not sure ads will popup while using or not)
    • Google home application

Duration

  • As long as phone screen not locked/timeout
  • Need constantly charging as drained battery
  • Turn off "Power Saving Mode" on your Android device

Chromecast 

  • Chromecast works on wifi/online    
  • Which is a dongle/ built in on newer SmartTV
  • Requires an active internet connection and same SSID between (SmartTV/chromecast devices) and android devices

  • Works with most mobile devices that come with Android 5.0 or higher

Tech

Range

  • The Android device and Chromecast device should be within 15 feet (4 meters) of each other. 
  • The Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in should be 15 feet (4 meters) away from the router, or less.
  • Make sure both your Chromecast device and Android device are both connected to the same Wi-Fi network channel, either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz 

Duration

  • As long as phone screen not locked/timeout
  • Need constantly charging as drained battery
  • Turn off phone smart wifi that change from 2.4ghz to 5ghz
  • Turn off "Power Saving Mode" on your Android device

Workaround duration

  • system>about>tap android build 10 times. This enables dev mode. Then system>dev options>enable stay awake.

    • If not, then must have google chromecast device/androidbox that support chromecast (mibox/mistick) for screen mirror

  • By using App cassto free, too many ads when setup at phone.
    • Range 2-3 meter tested OK
  • By using App google home free, no ads
    • Range 2-3 meter tested OK

Duration

  • 15 minutes test ok as long as android phone devices not lock screen or enter screensaver mode.
